Feng shui is important for the recovering individual of drug addiction , alcohol, weight issues or codependency. Recovery from an addiction is based not only on treatment and support but by surviving the day to day realities of life. While treatment programs reveal the underlying nature of the addiction , the patient is faced with returning to the same environment that may have created or elevated the individual’s problems.

Without the same support system that was available in treatment, the individual may feel apprehensive about returning to their normal lives. Many in recovery may start with motivation to continue but find themselves returning to their home and work environment filled with the same stress from job, family finances and relationships.

If you feel your surroundings where you live or work are not in balance or in harmony, it is time to examine your environment. Influences in your living spaces are based on the flow of energy in and around your home. Feng shui, is the Chinese science of balancing energy that enters and moves through your home and is comparable to the concept of acupuncture and the flow of energy within our bodies. Many people who are not familiar with feng shui confuse the science with some new age or religious practice. There are many consultants and books that do mislead the public with these new age beliefs but this is not the real, traditional science that was developed thousands of years ago in China.

The best way to describe feng shui is to think of our world in microscopic particles of energy in constant movement. Everything in the universe is made of moving particles vibrating at different levels. These different levels allow us to see colors, feel hot and cold , creates solids, liquids and textures. As hot and cold temperatures affect our senses, moods, energy levels, etc so does the qi surrounding you in your environment. The colors in your space, shape of furniture, walls, architectural features, light , ventilation and electrical sources will affect your level of production, relationships, health, sleep and study. These energies create positive or negative areas within a building that can affect the occupant’s well-being. The positive supportive energy enables us to live in good health for mind and body and helps us support energy to succeed in all areas of our life.

This energy is mapped in a blueprint that is individual to each building based on its direction, construction date, layout and present time. By identifying the supportive and non supportive areas we can adjust the qi to create a balance or recommend an area that will give you better results. Given this information we are able to create a space that feels secure, comfortable, productive and prosperous. It also helps to eliminate sleep disorders, low energy ,stress and conflict, all conditions that can weaken the commitment to recovery. A full assessment includes evaluating this energy blueprint, eliminating negative influences and creating a private space of relaxation. The ultimate goal is to create a positive, supportive environment that reflects one’s renewed self.
